Monastery of the Sundered Chain
Located approximately 20 miles to the south west of Overlook, the Monastery of the Sundered Chain rests high in the crags and crevices of the Stonehome mountains. Inside, the devout order of paladins, clerics and priests of Moradin pray and worship their fallen brothers from the War of Chains.
Hundreds of years ago, giants rules what is now the Elsir vale. They amassed a rich and powerful empire that stretched far and wide, and ruled it all from their now lost city in the Stonehome mountains. This empire was built from the sweat and live of their enslaved races, primarily, the dwarves, who constructed their roads and cities, and subjugated to the Giants cruelty becoming warped and twisted. For in the mortal realm, the giants deity Annam had empowered his subjects and rewarded them greatly.
In the astral plains, Moradin had been pre-occupied with an alliance of other deity’s to bring down a far greater evil. He could now turn his attentions to his children in the Vale. Blessing some of his invokers with divine power, Moradin created some of the first exarchs, powerful beings favoured by their God to and wielding his divine power. It was only through direct intervention of the other Gods that prevented Moradin from intervening himself.
With the power of Moradin infusing them, the dwarves overthrew their captors, and broke the chains that had been holding them back. To pay homage to their comrades and Moradin, the monks of the sundered chain now show praise in the steelworks, smithy’s and workshops beneath the temple.
When the orc invasion first threatened the vale, their scouts ahd discovered hidden passageways throughout the mountains, into the heart of the temple. Although they slaughtered all but one paladin, their progress was stalled with strategic cave ins to block further transgressions. This brave paladin, Kalad suffered cruel tortures by the orcs who captured him, and was only reprieved by the intervention of the defenders.
With the war building up, and the fall of Borodins watch, the Monastery has been abandoned until new defences can be erected, and some semblance of safety can be restored in the vale.
